Introduction to Laura's therapies
Hi I’m Laura, a fully qualified and insured therapist. My treatments and therapies include Swedish Massage, Reiki, Indian Head Massage, Hopi Ear Candling and Facials.
I find personal treatments therapeutic, both physically and mentally. Taking time out for ourselves can feel alien, however, I really did feel the rewards after treatments and know how much giving myself an hour here and there helped me, so I’m hoping I can help others.
Note, all massages and treatments are adapted to suit the individual.

What is massage?
Massage is a general term for pressing, rubbing and manipulating your skin, muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Massage may range from light stroking to deep pressure. Swedish massage is a form of massage that uses long strokes, kneading, deep circular movements, vibration and tapping to help relax, promote the reduction of muscle tension, pain, and aching joints and give an overall sense of well-being.
Benefits of massage
Massage is generally considered part of complementary and integrative therapy. It's increasingly being offered along with standard treatment for a wide range of medical conditions and situations. Studies of the benefits of massage demonstrate that it can promote a reduction in stress, pain, muscle tension and can help promote lymphatic drainage stimulating the circulatory system Some studies have found massage may also be helpful for:
-
Relief from pain and stiffness in the treated areas
-
Increased mobility of the joints in treated areas.
-
Relief from tension headaches, eye strain, nasal congestion & jaw ache.
-
Increased energy levels.
-
Reduction of stress, anxiety, lethargy, and mild depression.
-
Clarity of thought and concentration.
-
More restful and refreshing sleep.
-
A sense of positivity, well being and calmness.
-
Encouraging blood flow and lymphatic drainage helping to promote the strengthening of the immune system and release toxins from the body
-
Improved skin condition and colour.
-
Increased self-esteem and self-worth.
An introduction to Hopi Ear Candling
This relaxing and rejuvenating treatment, also known as thermo-auricular therapy, is known to be helpful for a variety of ear, nose and throat conditions. This gentle and soothing therapy originates from the Native American Hopi Indians and has been well known since ancient times for its calming and relaxing effects. Ear candles as well as being used for specific health conditions are great for calming the most stressful of minds.
An introduction to Facials
Whether you're looking for pure relaxation and a little pampering, or you're looking to take better care of your skin with a deep multi-step regime, this very popular spa treatment is loved by many. A facial cleanses, exfoliates and nourishes the skin, which in turn helps promote a more youthful, clearer complexion. Lasting between 15 minutes and an hour, this therapy favourite will have your skin looking and feeling soft and fresh.
What to Expect
Consultation- During the first session, we will run through a consultation, helping me paint a picture of what you hope to get out of the massage session and any medical issues you may have so I can adapt the therapy if needed. This usually takes about twenty minutes.
Preferences discussion-We will discuss your preferred medium for the massage as there is a choice of lovely aromatherapy oils, cream or talc. Oil is very beneficial for the skin however for those who are going on after the massage cream might be preferable.
Massage-We then start the massage with you either sat in a chair or on the massage couch or lay down on the massage couch. Once you are comfortable I'll apply the choice of massage medium working into the skin; warming the soft tissue before applying deeper pressure if desired. Throughout the massage, I invite you to communicate your preferred pressure.
Unwind-Once the massage is over a nice glass of water helps encourage the lymphatic fluid to flush through! I advise avoiding vigorous exercise after a massage as your muscles will have had a workout. If we have used oils your skin will be more vulnerable in the sun afterwards until removed.
How you’re feeling during and after your massage is of great importance to me and there isn’t ever a rush to jump off the couch and get gone, it’s nice to take your time and come round a bit before leaving.
